Wilmette is a vibrant community located in the New Trier township. The Village extends approximately five miles west from Lake Michigan and is approximately one mile wide. Wilmette was incorporated as a municipal corporation in 1872 and is a full service community that offers citizens the very best in police, fire, public works and administrative services. 

In terms of educational opportunities, Wilmette offers great public schools within the Wilmette Distric 39, the Avoca school District 37, as well as great private schools including Regina Dominican High School and Loyola Academy. New Trier High School which is one of the most highly acclaimed public high schools in the State of Illinois.

In 2015, Wilmette was ranked the best place to live in the state of Illinois based on a variety of factors including its low unemployment rate, median income, low housing vacancy rate, high education expenditures per student, low crime, and short commute times. Wilmette is currently served by the Chicago Transit Authority's Purple Line, the Metra commuter trains operated by Union Pacific Railroad on the old Chicago & Northwestern Railway line, and by the Pace suburban bus system.

Wilmette has two houses built by Frank Lloyd Wright: the Frank J. Baker House (and carriage house) and the Lewis Burleigh House (also known as the JJ O'Connor House). In addition, Wilmette has homes designed by Wright's contemporaries in the field of Prairie School architecture, including John S. Van Bergen.
